Florida's Panhandle includes the Gulf Coast cities of Pensacola and Panama City, both known for their status as contemporary Spring Break destinations, but also for their year-round beauty on the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

The Panhandle region also overlaps somewhat with the Alabama Gulf Coast, which is a short drive from Pensacola. Interstate 10 is the main corridor through this region, connecting with I-75 past the Big Bend area, where the panhandle connects with the main peninsula.

The toll roads in this area include the Garcon Point and Bob Sikes Bridges, in the greater Pensacola area, and SR 293, which includes both the Spence Parkway - also called Mid Bay Bridge Road - and the Midbay Bridge, itself.

SR 293 sits between Pensacola and Panama City Beach, connecting the towns of Niceville and Destin, which is on the gulf beaches, adjacent to Fort Walton Beach.

Panama City, itself, offers plenty of family attractions, as well as tremendous night views of the city and shoreline from the Panama City Skywheel, a ferris wheel on the beach.

Farther to the east, nearly due south of Tallahassee, and just west of Florida's Big Bend region, the Apalachicola National Forest provides primordial landscapes of the Sunshine State, replete with tall conifers and palmetto scrub.

Natural springs afford visitors the opportunity for canoeing and lakeside picnics. Hiking trails let you retreat from the frenetic pace of the world and lose yourself in nature.
