More About The E-ZPass

E-ZPass, In Brief

E-ZPass is the second largest transponder pass network in the United States. It used to rank first, until Florida Sunpass Pro became compatible across a larger number of states.

E-ZPass is issued by several states across the Midwest to New England, and south through the Mid-Atlantic states. It is compatible with myriad other networks, as well, including North Carolina's Quick Pass, Illinois' I-Pass and Florida's Sunpass Pro, E-Pass Xtra and Uni. It is also the only network pass that can be used in Michigan, but only on the Bay City bridges.

Each state that issues E-ZPass has its own set of discount programs and commuter plans, so each is summarized on each states' transponder page.

For business accounts, you will be required to provide a Vehicle Reference Code (VRC) for each vehicle assigned to your account.

A Vehicle Reference Code (VRC) is a universal identifier used between tolling agencies, to identify the weight and size classes of a specific vechile, along with the number of axles and tires. Business applications include a reference chart of applicable codes. A VRC is not required for personal accounts.

Business operators: It is important to use the largest common configuration of your vehicle when choosing a VRC. For instance, if you operate a five-axle tractor-trailer, but you sometimes only drive the cab, make certain to list the VRC for a five-axle vehicle, not a three-axle vehicle.

Use of logos or marks is for reference only. Neither affiliation nor endorsement is implied and should not be so construed.
